New Classic Member Orientation

New to Blizzard this season? Graduated from SuperKyds to Classic or Team Blizzard? Have your child in grades 5-12 join our Classic Orientation group during the first few weeks and learn how Blizzard works for the big kids! Our staff will show you when and where to go and you’ll meet other Blizzard members. No registration is required, just tell the staff when you get on the bus and we’ll take it from there. It’s a great way to get started with Blizzard!

Color Level Lessons

Each week, you can take up to 4.5 hours of instruction at your ability level, progressing at your own pace. On your first trip, you’ll meet with a Blizzard Tester to evaluate your skiing or snowboarding skills. You’ll be assigned to a Color Level and attend lessons specific to your color. Each lesson is 90 minutes and begins at the Lesson Cones at the base of the hill at 10:00 a.m., 12:15 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. The lesson schedule is shared during your morning bus ride and available online and at the Blizzard Table in the chalet.

Testing Slips: How to pass to the next Color Level

During your lesson, you will receive instruction and feedback from your Instructor. You may have a different instructor each lesson, which is an important part of building skills and growing as a learner, just like you have different teachers at school. When your Instructor feels you have mastered the skills at your Color Level, you will receive a “Testing Slip.” At the next lesson session, take this to the “Testing Cone” at the Lesson Cone area to meet with a Tester and evaluate your skills. If you pass, you advance to the next Color Level! If not, your Tester will give you specific feedback on skills you still need to master.

Extra Lessons & Ski/Ride With Me

Each week, in addition to your Color Level lesson, you can also take an additional 90 minute “Extra Lesson” or “Ski/Ride With Me.” We offer fun learning opportunities for you at every lesson time!

An Extra Lesson will give specific feedback on mastering skills at your Color Level. The more lessons you take, the more quickly you master the skills and progress through the Colors.

A Ski/Ride With Me is an opportunity to head out on a guided experience with an Instructor and other skiers/snowboarders who may not want a specific Color Level lesson, but want to learn more about good runs at a particular snowsports area; have an opportunity to enjoy the slopes with a friend who snowboards if you ski; or slide with friends at different Color Levels than you. Whatever you need, Blizzard Instructors can make it happen!

Independent Experience

Each week, at your parents’ discretion, you can choose one, two or three 90 minute lessons and have time to explore the slopes with friends. However, you are not totally on your own. Blizzard staff reinforce good decisions and are always visible on the slopes in their uniforms. Parents can check your lesson history with the Blizzard Office any time. Some parents make their child(ren)’s Blizzard participation contingent on lesson attendance, but the bottom line is that it’s up to you. At Blizzard, we believe in giving families choices.

Choose how you spend your time on the slopes while building responsibility, independence and skiing or snowboarding skills!
